Our Trees
Noble Fir
The beautiful shape, stiff branches and long keepability have made the Noble Fir the most popular Christmas tree in the San Francisco BayArea, Sonoma and Marin counties for many years. It resembles the long popular Silver Tip, but is a darker green and has a fuller shape. Its needles are about 1" long and twist upward so that the lower surface of the branches are exposed. It is native to Northern California and the Cascade and Coastal ranges of Oregon and Washington. |
Douglas Fir
The Douglas Fir, which is actually not related to true fir trees, has been a popular Christmas tree in the Pacific Northwest since the 1920's. Whenever a customer comes to Pronzini's Christmas Trees asking for an "old fashioned" Christmas tree, they are usually speaking of this variety of tree. The needles are dark green or blue green, soft to the touch, and have a sweet fragrance. It grows well in a wide range of environments, from dry, low elevations to moist sites. |
Grand Fir
The grand fir is one of the tallest firs, reaching heights of 300 feet. It is easily distinguished from other Pacific Northwest firs by its sprays of lustrous needles in two distinct rows. They are usually horizontally spread so that both the upper and lower sides of the branches are clearly visible. The needles are 1 to 1 1/2 inches long with glossy dark green tops and two highly visible white lines of stomata on the undersides. |
Fraser Fir
The newest tree to be introduced to the area is the Fraser Fir. It is very similar to the balsam fir, with needles 1/2" long and dark green on the upper surface. The branches tend to grow upward so that the silvery bottoms of the needles are showing. Customers are enjoying the nice form, excellent needle retention, and pleasant scent of this variety of Christmas tree. It is produced most heavily in North Carolina, but is gaining popularity in the Pacific Northwest. |
Nordman Fir
The preferred Christmas tree in Europe, this evergreen is becoming increasingly popular in the United States. It's grown primarily in the Pacific Northwest and is prized for its fat pyramid shap and lush, dark-green foliage. |
Silvertip
The California Red Fir,commonly referred to as a "Silvertip", are trees native to the high mountains of northern California and southern Oregon. The Silvertip is famous for its open, layered appearance and the silvery - green color of the tips of the tree. If you hear someone talking about an old fashion Christmas tree, they are more than likely talking about the Silvertip. |
